SWIR cameras have good fog-penetrating imaging capabilities, avoiding the impact of thin clouds and fog. Long exposure is needed for observing distant stars. Compared with CCD detectors in the visible light spectral range, InGaAs detectors have higher full well capacity, which improves exposure and star measurement limits.

At the same time, the number of observable stars in the infrared band is much more than the number of observable stars in visible light. The following picture shows the star map observed at night using a visible light CCD camera and a SWIR camera. You can clearly see more stars on the SWIR picture.
