Short-wave infrared (SWIR, usually refers to light with a wavelength of 0.9~1.7μm) is a type of light with a longer wavelength than visible light.So these lights cannot be seen by the "naked eye" or detected by "ordinary cameras". Due to some special material properties, some characteristics of the material cannot be seen under visible light can be presented under SWIR light. Therefore, the characteristics of the object can be detected by a SWIR camera.

Semiconductor wafer inspection by using SWIR camera

A wafer is a thin substrate of semiconductor material used to manufacture electronic integrated circuits. There are many types of semiconductor materials, and one of the most commonly used semiconductor materials is silicon (Si).

Wafers will have various defects during production. For example, residual stress accumulated in various process will cause cracks inside the wafer. If these defects are not detected before the subsequent manufacturing process, it will affect final IC chip production and increase the cost. Due to silicon-penetrate property of SWIR camera,the camera can detect defects inside silicon wafers,thus prevent bad wafers from going into subsequent process, and greatly reduce manufacturing costs.
