WHY InGaAs sensor?
SWIR camera’s performance is mostly determined by its sensor, and Indium Gallium Arsenide (InGaAs)sensors have become the preferred choice for SWIR camera for the following reasons:
InGaAs detectors has excellent sensitivity in the SWIR spectrum, typically covering wavelengths from 900nm to 1700nm. This broad spectral response allows InGaAs detectors to efficiently capture short-wave infrared light, resulting in high-quality imaging and signal detection.
InGaAs detectors possess a very high quantum efficiency, enabling them to detect weak infrared signals effectively. This feature allows SWIR cameras to perform well in low-light conditions, especially in nighttime surveillance and security applications, where capturing fine details is crucial. And the sensitivity of the detectors ensures accurate target recognition even in complex backgrounds.
Compared to other types of detectors, InGaAs detectors exhibit lower background noise when operating at low temperatures. This characteristic is vital for high-precision imaging in low-light settings.
InGaAs detectors can operate effectively over a wide temperature range, typically from -40°C to +70°C. This thermal stability allows them to adapt to varying environmental conditions, particularly in outdoor or extreme weather applications such as agricultural monitoring and environmental surveillance.
