Today I will introduce three different data interfaces normally used in Gatherstar’s SWIR camera. Without further ado, let’s get started!

Camera Link interface:

Camera Link interface is a high-speed serial interface standard for digital image transmission, mainly used for data transmission between industrial cameras and image acquisition devices. The bandwidth of the Camera Link interface is usually large, and can support high-resolution and high-frame-rate image transmission. Camera Link standard defines bandwidths under different configurations, such as Base, Medium, Full, and Extended.

Advantages: large bandwidth, reliable connection, support for integrated transmission and control.

Disadvantages: PCs basically do not have this interface, and an additional professional acquisition card will be needed.

GigE interface:

GigE interface is a high-speed transmission interface based on Ethernet technology for image data transmission between industrial cameras and computers. It is a transmission protocol.

Advantages: Because it is based on the Ethernet protocol, it is driver-free and plug-and-play. It is widely used and all PCs have this interface. The interface that supports POE also supports integrated power supply.

Disadvantages: Because the UDP protocol based on the Ethernet protocol is an unreliable connection, packet loss cannot be avoided.

USB interface:

USB (Universal Serial Bus) interface is a universal serial bus standard for connecting external devices and computers. Common USB connector types include USB Type-A, USB Type-B, Micro USB, Mini USB and USB Type-C.

Advantages: Supports power supply, transmission and control in one, the connection is relatively reliable, and the data transmission is stable compared to the network port. It is relatively popular and all PCs have this interface.

Disadvantages:Driver needs to be installed.
