Application of SWIR Camera in Camouflage Recognition

At border crossings, airports and other points of entry, in order to increase their security, biometrics will play an important role. However, at present, the effectiveness of fingerprint databases is limited by the size of the database and the difficulty of obtaining valid fingerprints. A unique feature of SWIR imaging is its ability to identify materials. Natural and man-made materials behave very differently in the SWIR spectrum. Hair, for example, appears black in visible light imaging and white in SWIR images. The wig, on the other hand, appeared black in both visible light and shortwave infrared imaging.


Another advantage of short-wave infrared is the ability to see through colored glasses and low-light environment imaging. Face imaging is still clear in various environments. It is worth mentioning that the existing visible light face recognition algorithm can be directly applied to short-wave infrared face recognition without any modification. The former technology development has been very mature.
