Because various forms of substances emit infrared radiation based on their temperature as long as the temperature is above absolute zero (-273.15 ° C/-459.8 ° F). The infrared emissivity is the ratio of the infrared energy emitted by the object at a specific temperature to the theoretical full value without loss. The emissivity of a blackbody is 1, so it can be understood that the infrared emissivity of a substance is the ratio of the infrared energy emitted by the object at a certain temperature to the radiant capacity of the blackbody at the same temperature. For example, if a substance can emit 95% of infrared energy, its emissivity is 0.95.

Our company has been committed to the measurement and calibration of infrared emissivity of substances in recent years. And a portable infrared emissivity measuring instrument is developed, which is based on the directional hemispherical reflectance (DHR) testing principle, that is, infrared light shines on the material to be measured at a certain angle (20 °± 1 °), and the material reflectance is defined as the ratio of the light intensity reflected to the integrating hemisphere to the light intensity reflected to the hemisphere. Therefore, by testing the signal intensity of the material reflected onto the integrating sphere, and then testing the signal intensity of all reflections onto the integrating sphere, the reflectivity of the material can be calculated. For opaque materials, its reflectivity+emissivity=1 can calculate the emissivity of the material.
